Children's Vision Services We Provide

Carbon Valley Eye Care recommends that children get their first eye exam between 6 and 12 months. Dr. Wright does participate in the InfantSEE program, which provides free eye exams to children under 1 year old. Learn more here. Learn more about the InfantSEE program. School vision screenings are a great way to detect possible vision issues that your child may have, but they are not a substitute for a comprehensive eye exam.

Why does my child need an eye exam?

A child's brain learns how to use eyes to see, just like it learns how to use legs to walk or a mouth to form words. The longer a vision problem goes undiagnosed and untreated, the more a child's brain learns to accommodate the vision problem. This can lead to misdiagnosed learning disabilities. Eighty percent of all learning is performed through vision. Make sure your child has the best possible tools to learn successfully.

What are symptoms that my child may have vision problems?

As a parent, you should watch for signs that may indicate a vision development problem, including a short attention span for the child's age, difficulty with eye-hand-body coordination in ball play and bike riding, and avoidance of coloring and puzzles and other detailed activities. Other signs that your child may have vision issues are: squinting or closing one eye, holding a book close to their face, tilting the head to one side, performing below potential in school or rubbing eyes repeatedly. If you have noticed any of these signs, call an schedule their appointment today.
